Keswick Rugby Club has stood at the heart of the town’s community for an incredible 147 years. Since 1958, the original clubhouse has been more than just a base for KRFC—it has been a welcoming hub for locals, players, and visitors to our beautiful Lake District town.

The Davidson Park site has seen its share of triumphs and challenges. Among the toughest were the catastrophic floods of 2005, 2009, and 2015, which devastated homes, businesses, and community spaces across Keswick. The club’s pitch, facilities, and clubhouse were all severely affected. Yet, as with so much in Keswick, resilience and determination shone through. The community pulled together, restoring not only the town but also the rugby club’s facilities, ensuring the teams could once again take to the field.

After many years of planning fast forward to 2024, and the club seized the opportunity to take its next big step: building a state-of-the-art, flood-resilient facility that will serve the community for generations to come. The project is a true testament to the vision, commitment, and hard work of everyone involved.

Our Role at Derwent Digital

Before construction could begin, one of the first challenges was ensuring site-wide connectivity and security. Derwent Digital was tasked with providing reliable Wi-Fi and remote-access CCTV to support the build team and project managers throughout the process.

From there, our role grew to cover the full design and installation of all the digital technologies required for the new facility’s day-to-day operation:

Connectivity – WiFi & LAN

We delivered secure internal connectivity for the club’s operations, enabling integration across systems including solar and battery storage, heating, AV equipment, and EV charging stations. Alongside this, we set up secure guest Wi-Fi in public areas and changing rooms, robust connections for conference facilities, and wireless point-to-point links to support major events such as the Keswick Beer Festival and car park payment systems.

Alarm Systems

Given the clubhouse’s multiple uses—as a sports hub, bar and restaurant, and events venue—it was vital to design a system that could handle constant comings and goings. Our alarm system provides reliable overnight security, along with logged remote access control so entry can be managed at any time.

CCTV

Security was further strengthened with our 24/7 CCTV solution. Using advanced high-resolution AI cameras with night vision, we ensured comprehensive site coverage. With smart logging and remote access, any event can be quickly reviewed, filtered, and identified with accuracy.

A True Team Effort

Working on this landmark project was a fantastic opportunity for us at Derwent Digital and to work along side all the other trades and suppliers.

The new Keswick Rugby Club facilities stand as a symbol of community strength and innovation—and we’re proud to have played our part in making them future-ready.
